Your guide to building a zero-emissions home and beyond.
Our project’s mission.
As Australia’s population continues to increase and drive building stock, carbon emissions released before the built asset is even used threaten our net-zero target by 2050 and consequently, the target of the Paris Agreement. Currently, the building materials sector creates 8% of Australia’s total emissions, while construction and demolition waste accounts for more than 40% of total waste sent to Australian landfills.
Our findings revealed that Millenials and Gen Zs are the least likely generations in Australia to reduce their carbon emissions to live a more sustainable life, this led us to create Beyond Homes.
Beyond Homes is designed to change the way young Australians approach home living. Beyond Homes showcases Australian-owned brands that are doing their bit to achieve net-zero emissions and eliminate ‘greenwashing’. Each business we support has been carefully vetted to ensure that they operate sustainably and offer products that reduce carbon emissions or minimise waste. Our aim is for more Millenials and Gen Zs to turn to the resources offered by Beyond Homes to make a sustainable switch for their home and lifestyle products.
By connecting with Australian communities through innovative communications, Beyond Homes can educate households on the cost benefits of transitioning to zero-emission energy sources in their home and inspire them to make a change. Once Australian homes are retrofitted or built with net-zero operational energy, the focus can shift to achieving net-zero embodied carbon in all new buildings.
“The building and construction industry causes 40% of global greenhouse gas emissions.”
“Operational emissions from the energy required to heat, cool, and power buildings are responsible for 28% of global carbon emissions.”
