Be water wise

Get a bucket for your shower

If you have to wait for your water to heat up when you get in the shower, don’t let the water go down the drain, capture it to reuse.

Don’t flush

If it’s not absolutely necessary to flush, give it a miss. Toilets use around six litres per flush, so every flush counts.

Turn off the tap

Switch the tap off while brushing your teeth, washing hands, scrubbing the dishes, and even while lathering up in the shower.

Easy and actionable steps to integrate into your busy schedule.

Fill up the dishwasher

Dishwashers can be more water-wise than hand washing depending on the appliance but avoid running them when half full.

Water plants earlier in the day

Try watering plants in the cooler morning hours to reduce evaporation.

Invest in water efficient appliances

Select appliances and use fittings in the plumbing system with a 6 star WELS rating. These save, on average, 14,500 litres of water a year.

Ditch the grass

Opt for a ‘waterless’ lawn featuring stones, hardy ground covers, and native plants.
