BEEkeeping for beginners

Bees are an integral component of our ecosystem. They pollinate flowers and most crops we eat, some make honey, and others help plants reproduce. Without bees, the longevity of our livelihoods is at risk. Australia has over 2,000 species of native bees.

Australia’s bee population is threatened by several factors, including:

  • The destruction of their natural habitat

  • Use of insecticides, fungicides, herbicides, and fertilisers, which are highly toxic to bees in agriculture and horticulture practices

  • Pests and diseases

  • A decline in commercial beekeeping.

Beekeeping at home with Ian Barker Gardens.

You can help save the bees by planting plants that attract bees and other wildlife. You can feature a pollinator house in your garden that is designed to house native bees and create pollinator corridors between wild spaces for habitats affected by urbanisation.

Sustainably made in Australia using upcycled Australian Araucaria wood. 100% of profits from this product are donated to support pollinator advocacy, protection and education.
