An easy to follow ‘6-step’ nighttime routine focusing on all sustainable products that we recommend!
STEP 1
At the end of the day, the first thing I want to do is remove all the makeup and sunscreen that has been sitting on my face! With my favourite Lush face oil ‘full of grace’ I will rub this all over my face which helps break down makeup easily instead of using micellar water that dries out the skin. Once I have rubbed in the face oil, I will wet my Face Halo circle with warm water and slowly sweep it over my face removing all the oil and makeup. Then I will double cleanse using either Kalamazoo or sleepy face cleansing balm. Don’t be fooled by Kalamazoo, although it says for a clean beard, it is the softest cleanser I have ever used and makes my face feel like a baby’s bum! Again, after rubbing in the cleanser I will wet my Face Halo but this time with cold water, and slowly sweep it over my face removing all the cleanser to reveal soft glowing skin!
STEP 2
It’s time to step into the shower and rinse off the day. I’ve tried a lot of different body washes, but the one I am loving the most at the moment is Zero Co’s body wash in their new scent ‘mandarin’.
It is so citric and fruity I feel like I’m becoming a fruit salad! Not only do I feel squeaky clean but I know that I am doing good for the earth by not using traditional plastic methods of packaging and instead opting for re-useable and recycled materials.
STEP 3
I don’t do this every night but once or twice a week is hair washing day!
My favourite shampoo and conditioner bars at the moment have to be from freshwater farms. Not only do they smell amazing but they genuinely leave my hair smooth, soft, and detangled! I have tried both the hemp seed oil and rosewater fragrance and both are brilliant! Lush, Ethique and Seed & Sprout offer great shampoo and conditioner bars that I would like to try next!
STEP 4
Brush my teeth!
Sometimes I do this while I’m in the shower while I wait a couple of minutes with conditioner in my hair to conserve more water just because it’s easier for me to multitask! At the moment, I use the bamboo toothbrush and toothpaste tabs both from flora & fauna. The toothpaste tabs I highly recommend them as they are so much nicer flavoured than others I have tried. I hate the menthol plain spearmint flavours so the mandarin is much nicer!
STEP 5
Finally, I can jump out of the shower and start my favourite part of my nighttime routine which is skincare! Since we have removed all the makeup it’s time to put some hydration back into our skin and prep it overnight for the next day! First I will start with Conserving Beauty insta-melt sheet mask to put hydration back into my skin.
Leaving that on for 10 minutes, then I use a spray toner from Biome, I have only tried the Be.Unity pure witch Hazel but there are many more brands and types that Biome recommends. Then it’s time for pure face oil to help get rid of blemishes and scarring, I have tried rosehip and hemp seed oil which seem to work for me but there are many more types to try! Then finally finishing with a clean rich moisturiser, again from Biome I use The Girl & The Olive Biodynamic Calendula Moisturising Cream.
Step 6
It’s not really a step but I like to think so - it’s the best part of my day; sleep!
Climb into bed with comfy sheets from Sheet Society! They are having a sale at the moment so I thought what a perfect time to buy new sheets for the summer that are 100% flax linen which is so soft and light on my bed! Using linen is better for the environment than cotton – depending on the way in which they farm the cotton and if sustainable practices are used – however, cotton is very reliant on heavy water consumption therefore opting for linen you are helping to conserve considerably fewer resources than cotton or polyester such as water, energy, pesticides, insecticides, fertilizers etc.
