These eco-friendly features can help your home sell up to 10 days faster

Given that energy and water bills are rising at an unprecedented rate, now is the perfect time to build or renovate your home to be more sustainable. It will not only relieve that burden by lowering your bills – but new research, released by the real estate company Zillow, has found houses that are an eco-friendly increase in value once it is time to sell. 

According to Zillow home trends expert, Amanda Pedelton, “climate change is impacting what buyers are looking for in a home and how they want to live.” 

Here are five ways you can take action and make your home an eco-friendly sanctuary, increase its value, and save money on bills:

Install Electric Vehicle (EV) Charging Stations 

The first, and most desirable eco-friendly feature is an electric vehicle charging stations. This is understandable when EV car sales are skyrocketing quickly, with 20,665 sold in 2021, compared to only 6,900 sold in 2019. An increase of nearly three times the sales in just one year and sales are expected to rise in the coming years. Zillow data found that on average homes with EV chargers sell up to 9 days faster. 

Drought-Resistant Landscaping

In Australia, we love to take advantage of the sunny climate and entertain outdoors, cook delicious meals on the barbie, play a game of cricket, or indulge in a relaxing spritza; it is no surprise that one of the best ways to improve your home value is to update the landscaping. 

As reported by Hort Innovation, Australia’s peak body for horticulture, placing a new natural lawn on your property can boost its sale price by over $100,000. And, a Hort Innovation analysis found that when there is new turf a landlord can charge up to $4.45 per square metre more a year for the rent of the property.

Additionally, homes with drought-resistant landscaping can sell up to 9 days faster reported by Zillow.

Double-pane windows sell 17% faster than homes without, in a dollar value that increases the home value by $125,000. Zillow also found that listings that mention double-pane windows sold up to 7 days faster. 

Even if you are not looking to sell yet, double-glazing your windows may cost more initially but have a greater continuing return on investment. Saving you more money on bills and making you more money when you sell!
